Travel the Silver Screen

While stuck inside during another winter storm, thankfully with electricity and internet again, I began perusing my DVD collection for films I could cozy up with until it was time to shovel. I hold a particular fondness for The Beach, Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, Sleepless in Seattle, Oceans 11, and Goonies. Watching movies set in places you’d like to go, places you have visited before, or just those with stunning imagery is a great way to curb the Travel Bug!

Here are the trailers to some of my personal favorites to watch as I am dying to get away, but just can’t.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

All of them really, no? NEW ZEALAND. Long sigh.

Mama Mia

As unrelatable as breaking out in song and dance is, how can you resist loving the Greek island backdrop? And ABBA?

The Goonies

Pirates. Treasure. Chunk! I love this movie to pieces. So it’s sad that I never made it to Cannon Beach while I lived in Northern California. Some other time!

Ocean’s Eleven

I’ve been to Las Vegas only once, and I have mixed feelings about the city, but every time I watch this movie I want to go back.

Letters to Juliet

Just another girlie, lovey-dovey, Amanda Seyfried flick? Or an epic road trip through Tuscany with phenomenal scenes of Siena that bring me right back to the moment I walked into the Piazza del Campo and my jaw dropped in amazement? Yes to the second one.

What are some of your favorite movies set in places you’ve visited or want to visit?
