Local Food Celebrated on Two Wheels

September was Local Food Month so I took part in a bike tour of three community gardens in Eureka. North Coast Community Garden Collaborative and Green Wheels organized the 3-hour tour. The collaborative is an effort of local non-profit organizations, resource centers, and food banks. Some gardens rent out plots to community members to cultivate, while neighborhood volunteers help as a group at other gardens. Local food banks collect the extra food then distribute it to the homeless. These gardens create community partnerships and help raise nutrition awareness by increasing people’s access to healthy, locally grown food. BAM! Here are some photos from the day:
